Someday… someday… someday. Most small business owners are too busy keeping up with today to “waste” time on something that won’t affect them until Someday. The problem is that if you’re not ready for Someday when it shows up on its own schedule (not yours), it’s too late to do anything about it.

And the things you can do to get ready for Someday also make your business more profitable and more enjoyable to own (less late nights and nightmares) in the meantime.

The exit planning industry uses a “4-D” list, or variations of it with even more causes, but those are all negative (death, divorce, disability, downturns in the industry). It’s also possible that something positive comes up. You could be offered the opportunity to become a player in another potentially lucrative business, or take on a fantastic job assignment – but they require you to give them near-full-time attention. Maybe you acquire a dream property on the other side of the country. You’ll need to be able to transfer that business to someone else fairly quickly, and that can only happen if the business 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ 𝘺𝘰𝘢 are ready for that transition when the opportunity arises.

Or, of course, the bad-guy versions of Someday could be the ones that show up uninvited.

If you’d like to know whether you and your business are ready for Someday, check out the quick readiness assessment on our “Owners” page.
